Jessica and Aaron’s Portland Engagement Session

It doesn’t happen all the time, but when I get to shoot an engagement session in Portland I really enjoy it. Jessica and Aaron were great to shoot because they kept making each other smile and laugh. I love it when that happens because then I don’t have to come up with cheesy things to say. =)

We started off near the Portland Art Museum which has a lot of fun sculptures to play with.
This pose was Aaron’s idea. I think they pulled it off nicely.

I love love love this shot! Most of the time I encourage people to interact with each other at an engagement session, but I always have them look at the camera for a few traditional photos. I love the simplicity of this shot, and putting it in black and white really puts the emphasis on their calm faces.

A lot of times during an engagement session I’ll throw on my 200mm telephoto lens and get pretty far away to give the couple room to talk without me hearing what they’re saying. Often couples will share inside jokes and the reactions are so genuine. Aaron and Jessica shared the joke with me afterwards. Let’s just say it had to do with athletes and taxpayers.

So the story behind the two shots above is that Jessica had these amazing boots and I just wanted to show them off. I feel like I could see them in a magazine ad.

The end.
Thanks Jessica and Aaron!
